FCC Suspends Indoor Athletics Due to COVID-19

Frederick, Md. -- Due to the continued rise of COVID-19 cases both locally and throughout the Region XX athletic conference, Frederick Community College has suspended all indoor athletic activities. This includes all activities for both men's and women's basketball and volleyball.

"This was a difficult decision made in consultation with the Region XX athletic conference," said Jerry Haynes, Associate Vice President/Dean of Students. "The need to place student and staff safety above all else prevailed. We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, take direction from health officials, and provide updates as needed."

FCC plans to proceed with outdoor sports, which include baseball, softball, and men's and women's soccer. Baseball and softball are scheduled to begin their practices on February 15 with competition scheduled to commence March 9 and 10 respectively. Soccer will begin practice in March with competition scheduled to begin in early April.

FCC will continue to make decisions based on information from the Frederick County Health Department, Maryland Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
