Babson Park, Fl – The #7 NJCAA DII FCC baseball squad took to the field on Thursday afternoon on opening day of their spring trip against Webber International JV. The Cougars swept the Warriors 2-0 and 9-5 to remain a perfect 4-0 on the season.
The storyline for game one for FCC was freshman starting pitcher Brian Rourke making his first start of the season for the Cougars. Rourke was a bulldog on the mound as he tossed a complete game shutout earning the victory. He scattered just three hits and fanned eight batters holding the Warriors in check over seven inning of work on the hill.
The Cougars came out swinging the bats in game two scoring nine runs on 13 hits. Seth Holler, Logan Appel, Zackary Costello, and Dylan Gutierrez each had two hits apiece. Holler knocked in three runs while teammate Logan Appel had himself quite a game scoring three runs along with three walks in the victory. FCC third baseman Dalton Haymaker chipped in with a double and had 2 RBI's for the Cougars.
FCC relief pitch Colby Rudis continues to shine out of the bullpen as he picked up the win and is now 2-0 in the early season. Rudis pitched two innings and recorded four punchouts.
FCC will travel to Southeastern University (Lakeland, FL) on Saturday afternoon as they battle the JV Fire in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon. The Cougars will see some familiar faces as FCC alums Chris Mattison (.500 BA, 25, hits, 5 HR, 22 RBI) and Nate Harmon are members of the SEU varsity team.
