Lakeland, Fl. - The No. 7 Frederick Community College baseball team returned to the diamond on Saturday afternoon and split with Southeastern University JV squad. The Cougars dropped game 1 by the score of 6-5 and would bounce back in game 2 defeating the Fire 5-1. With the split, FCC sits at 5-1 overall on the season.
FCC would pound out 13 hits in game 1 led by sophomores Alex Aristy (3-for-5, 2 RBI's) and Mark Martinez (3-for-4). Aristy and Martinez each had three hits while teammates Seth Holler (2-for-4, 2 RBI's) and Billy Lennox (2-for-5) would chip in with two hits.
The Cougars took a 5-3 lead into the sixth inning, however, the Fire would put a three spot on the board and take a 6-5 lead heading into the top of the 7th. The Cougars would threaten in their last at-bats, but the game would end on a double play turned by the Fire. FCC stranded 16 runners in the loss.
Sophomore southpaw Vincent Lodati (1-0) turned in a stellar performance on the mound for FCC. Ladoti tossed six innings and gave up just two hits and no runs. The Cougars registered 12 hits in the victory led by freshman Ryan Capstick (3-for-4) tallying three hits in the victory and teammate Dylan Gutierrez had two hits. FCC would swipe five bases in the victory.
Up Next: FCC will return to the field on Sunday afternoon when they take on ASA College in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
