Frederick, Md. - FCC extended their winning streak to six games today as the Cougars rallied late to top St. Clair County Community College 6-4 and then defeated Hood College JV 12-2. FCC is now 12-5 overall including 1-0 in MD JUCO conference play. The Cougars will lace the cleats up again on Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader as they play host to St. Clair County Community College. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM!
The Cougars held a slim 1-0 lead heading into the sixth inning and then St. Claire County Community College put a four spot on the board. FCC found themselves trailing late, however, the bats came alive thanks in part to some clutch hitting by Jett Manning. The silky smooth fielding shortstop is heating up at the plate. Manning went 3-for-4 in the victory including two doubles and a triple. He also registered three runs for the Cougars. Teammates Mark Martinez, CJ Mackinson, and Justin Hovey chipped in with two hits each.
Hats off to Dylan Gutierrez coming in relief for FCC to earn the victory and improve his record to 1-1. Gutierrez pitched three perfect innings striking out two for his work on the mound.
FCC freshman crafty southpaw Doug Pearl (W, 1-0) had himself a nice outing earning his first collegiate win as a starting pitcher. Pearl rolled out his full repertoire of pitches keeping the Blazer hitter's off-balance all game. DP tossed five innings and gave up one hit while striking out seven batters.
CJ Mackinson and Jett Manning have been getting it done at the top of the order for the Cougars. Mackinson went 3-for-5 while Manning went 2-for-5 in the victory. Seth "Seddi" Holler went deep for FCC for his first collegiate home run and knocked in three.
