Frederick, Md. – The FCC baseball team hit the diamond on Saturday afternoon playing host to Prince George's Community College in MD JUCO conference action. The Cougars took game one 12-5 behind a nice pitching performance from Ryan Capstick. The Owls bounced back to take game two by the score of 6-5. FCC is 17-6 on the season including 4-1 in the conference. FCC will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they host SUNY Adirondack. First pitch is set for noon!
FCC starting pitcher Ryan Capstick picked up the win on the mound and remains perfect at 3-0. Capstick went five innings and struck out six in the victory giving up just two earned runs.
The Cougar offense exploded for six runs in the second inning and put a four-spot on the board in the sixth inning. Justin Hovey had a key triple for FCC scoring two runs while teammates Zackary Costello and Blake Lazur hit back-to-back jacks late in the game to secure the victory. Costello knocked in five runs and the long ball for Costello was his fourth on the season. Teammate Billy Lennox chipped in with two hits.
The Cougars fell behind early spotting the Owls six runs in the first two innings and couldn't overcome the deficit. FCC starting pitcher Brandon Beck (0-1) was hit with the loss and went 1.2 innings and was relieved by Aaron Roby. Roby came out of the bullpen firing strikes and no-hit the Owls over 5.1 innings.
FCC had scoring opportunities, but couldn't muster up the big-hit with runners in scoring position. Billy Lennox went 2-for-3 while teammates Seth Holler and Eric Dressler each doubled. Holler's extra base hit knocked in two runs and he now has 24 RBI's on the season.
