Frederick, Md. – Tuesday afternoon's doubleheader was quite a day as two nationally-ranked teams squared off against each other. The No. 7 ranked FCC Cougars (Region 20) hosted No. 16 Mercer County Community College (Region 19) in NJCAA D2 play. Mercer County took game one 4-0 and the Cougars of FCC would bounce back to take game two 1-0 behind a strong pitching performance by lefty Doug Pearl. With the victory FCC improves to 21-8 on the year and Mercer County sits at 20-3.
Frederick Community College freshman southpaw Doug Pearl was "lights out" in game two against a very potent Mercer County offense. Pearl limited the Vikings to just two hits over six innings. DP was straight-out dealing on the hill keeping Mercer County off-stride the entire game. He would record seven punchouts and remains perfect on the year at 3-0. Colby Rudis pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn his first save of the year and shut the door on the Viking offense.
Frederick Community College returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel 32 miles to take on Hagerstown Community College in MD JUCO action. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM EST.
