Frederick, Md. – The No. 13 FCC baseball team swept a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon by the scores of 10-0 (5 innings) and 8-1 behind two strong pitching performances by Colby Rudis (6-2) and Brian Rourke (4-3). The two right-handed hurlers gave up a combined six hits on the day and struck out 21 batters as the Cougars extended their winning streak to eight games. Rudis earns win number six on the mound while Rourke picks up his fourth win of the season.
The Cougars are now 32-13 (11-7 MD JUCO, 8-2 Region XX D2) on the year and will host CCBC Essex in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM. Today's sweep makes it 11 years straight that FCC has registered 32 wins or more.
Let's just say the top of the order for the Cougars got the job done in Game 1. CJ Mackinson (.338 BA), Billy Lennox (.389 BA), Jett Manning (.417 BA), and Brandon Beck (.385 BA) went a combined 9-for-10 at the dish. Manning and Beck each had three hits in the victory. Beck knocked in four runs. Mackinson continues to do his job in the lead-off sport and get on base scoring. CJ would score three runs while teammate Dylan Guiterrez registered two base knocks.
Dalton Haymaker and Mark Martinez smoked two hits apiece in game two for the Cougars. Haymaker came through with some clutch hitting registering four RBI. FCC swiped four bases and pounded out eight hits to seal the victory.
