FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon against Scotland School by the scores of 13-3 (six innings) and 5-4. With the two wins, FCC improves to 13-7 on the season.
FCC did some major damage in the fourth as the offense put up a touchdown and converted on the extra point thanks in part to some baseballs that were tattooed. Mitchell Long (.370 BA) belted a 3-run homer, Jacob Wetzel (.460 BA) hit his sixth triple of the year and teammate Priamo Lozada (.471 BA) went deep for a 2-run bomb. For Lozada, it is his sixth dinger on the year. Wetzel is just two triples from tying the single season record held by Devin Bell and Carl Wastler.
Leadoff hitter Brett Stallings (.418 BA) had quite a day at the dish. He went 4-for-5 and knocked in two runs. Long, Lozada, Kyle Hoeth, and Kevon Wharton had two hits apiece. Long would finish the game with four RBIs to lead the offense attack that saw the Cougars pound out 13 hits in the win.
Nick Karlinchak picked up the win on the hill and improves to 2-1 on the year. He tossed five innings and gave up six hits while recording 10 strikeouts. Ryan Berry pitched the seventh inning and recorded two strikeouts to preserve the win.
A different story in the second game as the Cougars hung on to earn the one run victory. Scotland would plate one run in the top of the seventh to make the score 5-4. They had the tying run on third with two outs, however FCC reliever Jacob Wetzel shut the door to earn the save. Colin Eberhardt picked up the win to improve to 1-1. He tossed four innings, giving up two runs, while striking out four.
FCC will return to the diamond on Thursday (3/28/19) when they host Garrett College for a single game. First pitch is set for 3:00 P.M.
