FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College men's basketball team hung on and extended their winning streak to seven games with a 67-66 nail-biting victory over Raritan Valley Community College. With the victory, FCC sits at 12-2 on the season.
As the old saying goes, "It ain't over til it's over," and that sure was the case tonight in a thrilling victory for the FCC Cougars. FCC jumped out to a 44-28 first half lead led by strong play from Dashon Bell. The Cougars would build the lead to as many as 17 points, but the Lions would roar back. With just ten seconds left in the game, the Lions would drain a three-pointer to knot the contest up at 66-66. FCC would hold the ball for the last shot as Bell would penetrate in the lane and was fouled with just 5.6 seconds left in the game. He would hit the all-important first free throw to put FCC up 67-66. On the second attempt, FCC was called for a lane violation. The Lions would in-bound the ball and go the length of the court, and as time expired, a desperation 3-pointer was just a little strong and the Cougars would hang on for the one point victory.
Dashon Bell led FCC with 20 points while teammate Keon Claiborne netted 14 in the win. Dwayne Garner cleaned up the glass for FCC hauling down eight rebounds. Marlon White Jr. chipped in with nine point on 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
FCC will take some much needed time off and return to the court January 6, 2018, when they travel to CCBC Dundalk for a match-up with the Lions in MD JUCO play. Tip is set for 2:00 P.M.
