Cougars Slam GCC In OT To Make It Six In A Row

Barnett shines in victory for FCC

FREDERICK, Md. – The Frederick Community College men's basketball team welcomed Genesee Community College to the Cougar Dome on Saturday afternoon! Forty minutes wasn't enough time to determine a winner. The Cougars would upend GCC in overtime, 91-89. With the victory, FCC improves to 8-1 while GCC falls to 6-2.

The first half was filled with a highlight reel of dunks turned in by by FCC's Henry Okoye and Corey Barnett. FCC would jump out to an early 10-4 lead, however, GCC would storm back to take a 45-38 lead after 20 minutes of play. GCC would remain hot in the second half thanks in part to shooting guard Jarett Haines. He was on fire the entire game and had a game-high 31 points. GCC would build a 66-53 lead with 11 minutes to play. FCC would put a run of their own together and take a 68-66 lead with 7:47 left to play. Credit CJ Williams for playing a crucial role bringing FCC back in the game with a three-point play and a handful of buckets. He would finish the game with 10 points.

In OT, GCC would quickly score the first four points and take the lead just 20 seconds into the extra period. FCC would bounce back and put together some nice offensive series and locked it down on defense to preserve the win.

Corey Barnett had a team-high 18 points (7-of-12 FGs) for the Cougars and drained a couple of treys throughout the game to pace FCC. David Garey continues to dazzle at the point for the FCC offense. He scored 17 points (6-of-9 FGs) and handed out 7 assists. Henry Okoye played 'big' in the paint for FCC. Okoye finished the game with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) to seal the victory. In his first action of the season, Chris Knight connected on all three of his shots and finshed the contest with seven points.

The Cougars shot the ball well from the field, connecting on 36-of-64 (56.3%) field goals on the win.

FCC will return to the hardwood on 12/5 as they welcome Cecil College to the Cougar Dome. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 P.M.
