Dundalk, Md. – The FCC men's soccer team is one step closer to capturing the NJCAA Region XX D1 soccer championship after a convincing win over College of Southern Maryland 2-0. With the victory, FCC improves to 14-3-1 and are winners of 11 in a row.
The Cougars jumped on the scoreboard first in the 34th minute of the contest with a goal by Carlos Grandos Torres. It was his eighth goal on the season. Leading 1-0 in the waning minutes of the contest, FCC's Ivan Gutierrez scored to put the icing on the cake, sealing the victory for FCC. Teammate Joel Ramirez was credited with the assist.
Credit FCC goalkeeper Joseph Garner for turning in a stellar performance in the victory. Garner was tough as nails in the net holding the Hawks scoreless. He is looking forward to the match-up with the Knights. "I've had this date circled on my calendar, we need to win that, and hang another banner," said Garner.
FCC Head Coach John LaRocca knows this has been a historical season and is thrilled about the way his team performed today. "The storyline of our season has been the second half, grinding it out for 90 minutes," said LaRocca. "Everybody that stepped in, did their role, like we asked."
FCC (No. 2 seed) will take on CCBC Essex (No. 1 seed), Saturday with a start time of 1:30 PM. The game will be played at CCBC Dundalk. FCC will look for revenge as back on September 6th the Knights upended the Cougars by the score of 2-1.
