Defensive Miscues Haunt Softball In Loss to Fighting Owls

FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick Community College softball team fell behind early and couldn't recover in an 11-5 loss to Harford CC on Sunday afternoon. Harford jumped on the scoreboard in the first frame on a solo shot by Emily Bowler. The Cougars struggled defensively committing seven errors in the loss.

Harford scored five runs in the third inning and this turned out to be the game-changing momentum swing. The Cougars, however, wouldn't go away quietly. FCC scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning. The rally was led by back-to-back singles by Ashley Bentley and Cassidy-Thanh Lee-Dinh.

Alexis Valentine earned the victory on the mound for the Fighting Owls. She allowed seven hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking one.

Ashley Bentley took the loss on the mound for FCC and falls to 2-4 on the year. She gave up 11 runs on eight hits over seven innings, fanning four batters.

The Cougars collected seven hits in the game. Katie Shugars (2-for-3, 2B) and Bentley (2-for-4) each smacked two hits to lead FCC.
