KEYSER, WV - The Frederick Community College softball team hit the road to take on Potomac State College of WVU on Sunday afternoon for a Region XX D2 matchup. The Catamounts swept the Cougars by the scores of 7-6 and 7-2.
FCC commits five errors in one-run loss to Catamounts
FCC starting pitcher Ashley Bentley tossed six innings and gave up just two hits in one of her strongest outings on the season. The Cougars turned in a solid performance at the plate cracking out 12 hits.
FCC took a 3-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the fifth highlighted by a third inning home run by Ashley Bentley and a fifth inning homer by Morgan Alder. However, the Catamounts would put a crooked number on the board in the fifth frame to take a 7-3 lead. The Cougars would not go down without a fight. FCC would plate three runs in the top of the sixth inning, but the Catamounts would hang on for the one-run victory.
Catamounts strike early to earn the victory
The Cougars watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 7-2 loss to the Catamounts. Potomac State College scored six runs in the first two innings and this was too much of a deficit for FCC to overcome.
Whitney Dickerson took the loss on the mound for FCC. She allowed six hits and six runs over two innings, striking out one.
FCC will return to the diamond on Wednesday (4/11) against Chesapeake College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 P.M. at Frederick Community College.
