Winter Haven, Fl – Coming off a sweep of Mott Community College on Friday, the FCC men's baseball squad erupted for a season-high 17 hits and sophomore southpaw Andrew Scarpelli turned in a stellar performance on the mound as the Cougars defeated Delta College 14-4 in six innings on Saturday morning. The Cougars improve to 9-5 on the season and the Pioneers drop to 2-1 overall.
The first four batters for FCC had quite a day at the plate. CJ Mackinson, Jett Manning, Billy Lennox, and Seth Holler went a combined 11-for-16. Mackinson, Lennox, and Holler each had three hits each in the victory. The Cougars did a solid job hitting with runners in scoring position as Holler knocked in three runs while teammate Ashtin Byers had a pair of hits and registered 2 RBI's. FCC's backstop Mark Martinez went 1-for-2 on the day and walked three times. Martinez continues to do a solid job getting on base and now sports a .478 on base percentage.
In the final game of the spring trip, it was important for lefty Andrew Scarpelli to have a solid outing. Scarpelli set the tone early and was dealing on the bump. He pitched a complete game giving up one earned run on only four hits while striking out six Pioneer batters. Scarpelli picks up his first victory of the season and evens his record at 1-1.
The Cougars will enjoy a much needed two day break and return to the diamond on Tuesday at home when they open up conference play against Allegany College of Maryland in a single game. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM. Projected weather forecast on Tuesday in Frederick, Maryland, reading sunny and 70 degrees! Great day for some baseball!
