BALTIMORE, MD – Let's give some much deserved credit to FCC veteran pitching coach Steve Insley. Exact quote from Coach Insley, "Boys showed up today." Yes they did! FCC starting pitchers Colby Rudis and Doug Pearl stepped up big time today as the Cougars swept CCBC Essex by the scores of 4-0 and 13-3. Playing conditions were difficult for both teams with heavy wind gusts throughout the day. Both Rudis and Pearl tossed complete games helping the Cougars take two and improve to 34-12 on the season including 7-3 in their last 10 games. More importantly, FCC sits at 10-2 on the season in Region XX D2 competition. CCBC Essex drops to 11-28 on the season.
Game 1
The bulldog Colby Rudis was ready to roll and set the tone early. Rudis was pumping strikes early as he struck out the side in the first frame. He twirled a complete game shutout and improves to 7-1 on the year striking out seven batters and giving up just two hits. Rudis' lone loss came back on Feb. 11th. Let's just say Colby Rudis has been locked in as of late.
FCC would plate one run in the top of the 6th and put a crooked number on the scoreboard in the 7th inning. Leadoff man Maciah Thomas smacked two doubles and teammate Jett Manning contributed with two hits. Alex Aristy and Eric Dressler each added doubles securing the victory for FCC.
Game 2
FCC held a 5-3 lead after four innings and then the Cougars exploded for eight runs in the final two innings before ending the game in the bottom of the 6th by the score of 13-3. Doug Pearl (6-2) was jamming on the mound. He picked up his sixth win of the season striking out seven in six innings as he went the distance.
Pearl had plenty of offensive support from his teammates in the nightcap. The Cougars pounded out 14 hits in the victory. Alex Aristy and Thomas Gonzalez smashed homers in the victory. Joining Aristy and 'Gonzo' in the hit parade were Maciah Thomas, Jett Manning, Brady Harju, Nick Fuhrmann, and Brayden Lackey as each of them collected two hits. Both Gonzalez and Aristy knocked in three RBI while Fuhrmann and Harju knocked in a pair of runs.
