Big Swing from Dorsey Powers Cougars Past Monroe
Frederick Community College Cougars continue their run at the 2026 NJCAA Division II World Series, as the No. 11-seeded Cougars delivered a decisive 9–4 victory over No. 10 Monroe Community College in Game 9 on Monday at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Oklahoma.
After Monroe grabbed a 1–0 lead in the opening inning, the Cougars quickly responded with a second inning that set the tone offensively. Frederick capitalized on control issues from Monroe starter, drawing walks and forcing pressure situations that led to two runs, including an RBI walk by Vincenzo Cusat and a defensive miscue that brought in another. The Cougars continued to build momentum in the third, as Jack Clarke and Cole Swinimer delivered back-to-back RBI hits to extend the lead to 4–1.
Monroe briefly cut into the deficit with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the third, but Frederick answered immediately. Casey Westerberg drove in a run in the fourth inning, taking advantage of another Monroe error to push the Cougars back in front by two at 5–3. That response proved critical in maintaining control of the game as both teams settled into a mid-game rhythm.
On the mound, Ethan Duff turned in a strong start for Frederick, improving to 9–1 on the season. The right-hander went six innings, allowing three runs while striking out seven, effectively limiting damage despite Monroe's eight hits. Duff worked through traffic and kept Monroe from stringing together big innings, giving the Cougars the stability they needed to stay in front.
The game remained tight until the eighth inning, when Frederick's Clayton Dorsey delivered the defining moment of the contest with a towering grand slam, scoring Luis Perez Alfaro, Cusat, and Jaxson Wood to extend the lead to 9–3. The blast capped a standout day for Dorsey, who finished with four RBIs, and two runs scored.
Frederick's lineup drew nine walks and spread eight hits across the order. Clarke led the way with two hits and an RBI, while Perez Alfaro reached base three times and scored twice. Swinimer added a key RBI double, and Westerberg chipped in with a run-producing play as part of a balanced attack.
Colin Milligan closed the game over the final three innings, allowing just one run while working around four walks to secure the victory.
With the win, Frederick keeps its season alive and advances to another elimination test. The Cougars will face No. 7 Iowa Central Community College in Game 13 on Tuesday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m. CT in Enid.
