FREDERICK, Maryland - Frederick Community College Director of Athletics Chad Smith has announced the hiring of Christopher Lewis as head coach for the men's basketball team.
Lewis comes to FCC from East Tennessee State University, where he served as assistant women's basketball coach. Prior to East Tennessee, Lewis was the assistant women's basketball coach at George Mason University, assistant coach at Missouri State University, recruiting coordinator at Morgan State University, and head women's coach at Harris Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri.
While at Morgan State, Lewis helped lead the Bears to a pair of second-place finishes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and a WNIT appearance in 2011.
While at Harris-Stowe State University, Lewis helped turn a struggling program into an NAIA National Tournament participant in just his second season at the helm. In 2007-08, the team went 23-10 and earned a No. 20 national ranking and finished the season with an NAIA Round of 16 appearance.
Lewis earned his coaching start at his alma mater, Emporia State University where he served as a student assistant coach in both the men's and women's programs. While at Emporia State, the women's program compiled a 93-27 mark in four seasons and earned a Division II national ranking as high as No. 2 in two separate seasons. Additionally, the women's program won two Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championships and made three trips to the national tournament.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Lewis received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Emporia State University in 2003.
