ANNANDALE, Virginia – Riding a three game winning streak, the FCC men's basketball team hit the road on Wednesday night to battle the Nighthawks from Northern Virginia Community College in Region XX DII action. It was a tale of two halves as the Cougars would recover from a tough first half to earn the 65-54 victory. With the win, FCC extends its winning streak to four games and sits at 7-2 overall on the season.
The Cougars struggled shooting the ball from the field, connecting on just 10-of-35 (28%) field goals, including four-of-18 (22.2%) from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes of the action. CJ Williams and Domantas Sakickas (3-of-3 FGs) chipped in with eight and seven points respectively. The Nighthawks forced the Cougars into 11 miscues.
FCC fell behind 41-29 at the 17:45 mark in the second frame and then the Cougars went on a run to tie the contest up at 41 with 13 minutes to go. FCC's Juwan Burnett had a big time performance in the second half to propel the Cougars to victory. Burnett scored 12 points in the final 20 minutes of play and finished the contest with a team-high 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field. Domantas Sakickas tallied 11 points in the win on 5-of-9 shooting. Teammate CJ Williams chipped in with 10 points in 15 minutes of action.
The Cougars forced the Nighthawks into 20 miscues and held them to just 21-of-70 field goals, including 3-of-26 from beyond the arc. The Nighthawks scored just 19 points in the final 20 minutes of the game.
