FREDERICK, MD – Ah…You can't beat fun at the old ballpark! What a day for FCC baseball fans as the Cougars showed up on Saturday afternoon for a clean sweep over CCBC Essex by the scores of 12-0 and 5-4. With the two victories, FCC improves to 14-9 overall, more importantly, FCC sits at 13-4 in Region XX D2 action.

The Cougars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, pounding out 11 hits in the victory over the Knights. The meat of the order did a majority of the damage as Michigan Daub, Justin Acal, and Brodey Neveker tallied two hits each. Daub and David Antone registered triples in the win.

Tip of the cap to John Cummings as he picked up the win on the hill. Cummings tossed a complete game shutout allowing just two hits while striking out nine batters.

Game 2

The Knights plated three runs after two innings but in the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars came roaring back thanks to RBI singles by Lane Gay and Nicco German.

FCC took a 4-3 lead into the top of the seventh. CCBC Essex's Emmanuel Maldonado drilled a solo shot to straight away center to tie the game up and this is where the fun began.

In the bottom of the seventh, Spencer Rhoads ripped a single to left field and things started to get interesting. Brevin Neveker stepped up to the plate and bunted for a base hit. With runners at second and third after a beautifully executed sac bunt by Michigan Daub, Justin Acal was intentionally walked to pack the bags. With the crowd on its feet, Brodey Neveker stepped to the plate. Neveker wasted little time smoking a liner to right field for the game-winner to complete the Cougar sweep!

Jared Hurlburt (1-1, 1 SV) came out of the bullpen to pick up his first collegiate hill on the mound. The hard throwing righty recroded the final six outs.
