No. 14 Cougars Fall on the Road to Trojans
The Frederick Community College Cougars baseball dropped a road contest Thursday afternoon, falling 6–2 to Allegany College of Maryland. Despite outhitting Allegany, Frederick could not capitalize on several opportunities as the Cougars moved to 8-2 on the season.
Frederick struck first in the opening inning when Cole Swinimer launched a solo home run to give the Cougars an early 1–0 lead. The offense continued to generate chances throughout the afternoon, collecting nine hits, including multi-hit performances from Vincenzo Cusat, Luis Perez Alfaro, Casey Westerberg, and Jaxson Wood. Perez Alfaro added Frederick's other run with a solo homer in the eighth inning, but the Cougars were unable to string together enough timely hits to close the gap.
On the mound, Colin Milligan kept Frederick in the game through five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven. Allegany broke through in the fourth inning with a three-run frame, taking advantage of a pair of defensive miscues to swing the momentum. The hosts added three more runs in the middle innings to extend the lead before Frederick's late push fell short.
Now sitting at 8-2 and still ranked among the nation's top junior college programs, the Cougars will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to face Community College of Allegheny County in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 14 at 12:00 PM in Pittsburgh.
