Cougars Pull Away Late to Defeat CCAC Wildcats 11-3
Frederick Community College Cougars baseball team used a big middle-to-late inning surge to power past Community College of Allegheny County, 11–3, on Thursday afternoon in Frederick, improving to 12-6 on the season. After falling behind early, the Cougars responded with consistent offensive pressure and strong pitching to take control of the game and secure another home victory.
CCAC struck first with two runs in the opening inning, but Frederick settled in behind starting pitcher Vincenzo Cusat, who delivered five solid innings to keep the deficit manageable. The Cougars broke through in the fourth and fifth innings, capitalizing on small-ball opportunities and timely hitting to grab a 4–2 lead. Luis Perez Alfaro delivered a key RBI double, while Andrew Varga added a sacrifice fly as Frederick chipped away and shifted momentum.
The game turned decisively in the sixth inning when the Cougars erupted for four runs, highlighted by a Clayton Dorsey solo home run and aggressive baserunning that led to multiple runs scoring on wild pitches. Frederick added to the lead in the eighth, as Riley Anderson came off the bench and launched a home run, and Dorsey delivered again with a two-run single to cap off a three-RBI day. Casey Westerberg led the offense with three hits, while Dorsey also collected three hits and drove in three runs in a standout performance.
Out of the bullpen, Matthew Calabrese and Evan Hassinger combined to shut down CCAC over the final four innings, allowing just one run and preserving the win. The Cougars now turn their attention to a road doubleheader on Sunday, March 29 against Garrett College, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM.
