Cougars Sweep Hagerstown on the Road for Two Regional Victories
The Frederick Community College Cougars delivered a statement performance on Saturday, sweeping a road doubleheader against Hagerstown Community College to improve to 15-9 overall and 6-4 in Region 20 Division II play. With the season entering a critical stretch, the two wins marked a major step forward for Frederick as the Cougars look to regain traction within the region and showed a complete effort on both sides of the ball.
Game one saw Frederick grind out a 4–2 victory behind timely hitting and a strong outing on the mound. The Cougars jumped ahead early with runs in the first and second innings, then added an insurance run in the seventh to seal the win. Luis Perez Alfaro led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Tysan Gingerich delivered a key home run that accounted for two runs. Andrew Varga continued to set the tone at the top of the lineup, reaching base multiple times and scoring once. On the mound, Ethan Duff gave Frederick six solid innings, allowing just two runs, and Matthew Calabrese closed the door in the seventh to secure the save.
Frederick carried that momentum into game two, pulling away for a 10–4 win to complete the sweep. The Cougars struck early again, scoring multiple runs in each of the first two innings and never relinquishing control. Andrew Varga paced the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Luis Perez Alfaro delivered a three-RBI performance, including a home run. Clayton Dorsey added three hits and an RBI, and Jack Clarke contributed with a hit, an RBI, and aggressive baserunning that helped create scoring opportunities throughout the game. After a short start, Evan Hassinger provided stability out of the bullpen, tossing 4.2 strong innings to earn the win and keep Hagerstown at bay.
With the sweep, the Cougars now return home looking to build on that momentum when they host Prince George's Community College for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 7 at 1:00 PM.
