Cougars Split Home Doubleheader with Penn State Mont Alto

The Frederick Community College Cougars earned a split at home against Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday afternoon in Frederick, falling 12-2 in Game 1 before bouncing back with a commanding 9-1 victory in the second game. The result moved the Cougars to 10-8 overall as they continued to navigate a competitive stretch of the season.

In the opener, Frederick showed early promise by taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Alondra Sidock delivered an RBI single to score Madison Ohler. However, Mont Alto responded with a two-run third inning and broke the game open with a six-run fifth, capitalizing on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. The Cougars managed seven hits in the contest, including a solo home run from Ohler in the sixth, but were unable to slow down Mont Alto's 18-hit offensive attack despite contributions from Ava Yockelson and Sidock, who each recorded multiple hits.

Frederick quickly regrouped in Game 2 with a dominant first inning that set the tone. The Cougars erupted for seven runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Ohler, an RBI single from Raegan Miller, and a two-RBI play from Joelle Staub. Ava Yockelson added an RBI single during the inning as Frederick took full control early. The Cougars extended the lead in the third with another clutch double from Ohler, who finished with four RBIs in the game. Miller was equally impressive in the circle, throwing a complete game while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out two. Frederick's balanced attack and strong pitching secured the run-rule victory and salvaged the split.

Frederick now turns its focus to the road as the Cougars travel to face Cecil College on Wednesday, April 1 at 2:30 PM, looking to build on the momentum from their Game 2 performance.
