Cougars Honor Sophomores Closing out Regular Season at Home, Turn Focus to Region 20 Playoff Run

Frederick Community College closed the regular season Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader against Cuyahoga Community College. The Cougars were held scoreless in both contests, falling 8–0 in Game 1 and 8–0 in Game 2. Despite the setbacks, the day marked the end of the regular season for FCC, which finished 17–17 overall and 11–7 in Region 20 Division II play, a record that secured the Cougars a spot in postseason competition.

In the opener, the Cougars' offense was limited to two hits, singles by Madison Ohler and Brooke Renninger, while the second game followed a similar pattern. Frederick generated a pair of hits, including singles from Joelle Staub and Alyvia Shew, but again struggled to string together sustained offense. The Cougars continued to compete defensively, but the visitors' consistency proved decisive.

Although Sunday's results did not go in Frederick's favor, they has officially qualified for the 2026 Region 20 Division II Softball Tournament as the sixth seed. The Cougars will travel to the College of Southern Maryland on Saturday, May 2, to face third-seeded College of Southern Maryland in a best-of-three quarterfinal series. The winner will advance to the Final Four of the Region 20 Division II Softball Championship, hosted by WVU Potomac State from May 8–10. With the regular season complete, Frederick now turns its attention to postseason play and a new opportunity to extend the year on the regional stage.
