FREDERICK, Md. – A special night all the way around for the FCC volleyball program on Tuesday night as the Cougars hosted Anne Arundel in MD JUCO volleyball action. FCC swept the Riverhawks by the score of 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-14).

Prior to the start of the contest, FCC Head Coach Patti Westenberg honored each player and their families, friends, and supporters.

The Cougars were victorious on the court led by freshman outside hitter Taylor Fleagle. Fleagle led with 15 kills on the night and recorded six digs in the win. Teammate Caitlyn Gilbert chipped in with seven kills and five digs. Madison Fernandez and Lauren Ryan continue to turn in stellar serving performances. The dynamic duo tallied 11 service aces in the win. FCC recorded 16 services aces on the night.

FROM THE HEAD COACH - Patti Westenberg

'The Cougars Volleyball team has completed the regular season with an MDJUCO conference record of 6-3 (.667).  Despite schedule changes due to Covid-19, the team was able to overcome obstacles and compete at a high level.  Our team's Family Night was a wonderful display of how the roster became a community.  Coach Patti Westenberg says that she" looks forward to seeing what these young women will do with their degrees and future careers. Our motto this year was "Good Vibes Only" and we worked hard to improve and maintain a successful season. We had a lot of fun."  

Highlights:
The team holds an NJCAA DII ranking of #2 in the nation for Service Aces per Set as a team with 3.19
 
Lauren Ryan and Madi Fernandez are currently #4 and #7 respectively in the NJCAA DII Region for Aces per Set as individuals with 0.91 (Ryan) and 0.84 (Fernandez). 
 
Taylor Fleagle finished the regular season as the top scorer with 125 points scored, 105 kills, and 100 digs.  Her kills per set percentage at 2.44 was enough to place her in the FCCVB School Records as a Top 10 Attacker. 
 
NEXT UP
#4 seed FCC will take on the #1 seed Hawks from Hagerstown CC in Region 20 D2 semifinals. First serve is set for 10:00 AM at Montgomery College. The winner will advance to the Championship match at 4:00 PM vs. the winner of #2 WVU Potomac State College/#3 Montgomery College.
