Cougars Show Progress in Tri-Match Opener Against Allegany

The Frederick Community College Cougars women's volleyball team continued its early-season grind on Saturday morning, opening its home tri-match against the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans. Still searching for their first win of the season, the Cougars showed flashes of improvement but ultimately fell 3-0 (20-25, 21-25, 22-25) in a hard-fought contest. Each set saw Frederick close the gap a little more as they battled to find their rhythm, highlighted by a strong finish in the third frame.

Eva Turner led the Cougars' offense with 11 kills on 35 swings to go along with 17 digs and a block assist, while Brynn Cochran added eight kills and 17 digs from the back row. Setter Arianna Calhoun directed the attack with 24 assists, two kills, and eight digs, and Johnna Ryan contributed four kills, three aces, and 13 digs. As a team, Frederick posted 68 digs against the Trojans in a scrappy defensive effort.

Now 0-3 overall, the Cougars continue to search for their identity and will have another chance to turn things around later in the afternoon when they face Chesapeake College in the final match of the day's tri-match at the Athletics Center in Frederick.
