Cougars Outlast Trojans in High-Scoring Sweep

The Frederick Community College Cougars softball continued their push in Region 20 play with an impressive home sweep of Allegany College of Maryland on Wednesday in Frederick, earning wins of 12-5 and 5-4. With the two victories, the Cougars improved to 9-7 overall and evened their regional record at 5-5 in Region 20 Division II competition.

In Game 1, Frederick's offense came alive with 15 hits, using a steady scoring approach before breaking the game open in the middle innings. After tying the game in the second on an RBI single from Raegan Miller, the Cougars took control with runs in the third and fourth behind contributions from Alyvia Shew and Brooke Renninger. The decisive moment came in the fifth inning when Frederick plated five runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Miller and additional run production from Joelle Staub and Renninger. Daysha Cook added two RBIs later in the game to extend the lead, while Shew delivered a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate. In the circle, Alondra Sidock went the distance, working through traffic to allow five runs while keeping Allegany from mounting a comeback.

The second game proved to be a much tighter battle as both teams traded momentum throughout. Frederick jumped ahead early in the second inning with RBIs from Miller and Leo Cline, but Allegany answered to tie the game in the third. The Cougars regained the lead before the Trojans rallied again in the sixth to take a 4-3 advantage. Frederick responded immediately when Cline delivered a clutch RBI single to even the score. In the bottom of the seventh, the Cougars walked it off as Miller came through once again with a run-scoring single to bring home Ava Yockelson and secure the 5-4 victory. Miller was dominant all game long, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs while also pitching a complete game in the circle.

Frederick now looks ahead to its next home doubleheader as the Cougars host Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday, March 31 at 3:00 PM.
